BOOK 12: ONE NIGHT AT THE PUB (GAY ROMANCE)

CHAPTER 1

After a really tiring day at work, I knew that I needed a break and I had earned one. I wanted to unwind and relax and just have a wild night. It was one of those Fridays night that had a party written all over it. No matter how tired you are and how sore your bones may be, all you really want is a cool night out with the friends you have always been comfortable with.

I was 27, single and gay. A large part of my life was defined by the fact that I was gay. I knew that there were a lot of homosexuals who had a tougher life than me as my friends were very comfortable with my sexual orientation. When I had come out of the closet 8 years ago, my friends had stayed by my side because they said that they already knew about it.

My parents had been quite supportive too, and I didn’t have to fight for my identity. However, the tough part had been looking for a mate. When you are 27, you begin to feel the need to have a partner. I had a lot of one-night stands and even a few very brief relationships, but none of it seemed to substantiate into anything.

The more I tried, the worse it got. I forced myself into a relationship only to later realize that the guy was married to a girl because he wasn’t ‘man’ enough to come out. I had tried to explain him the need to be who he truly was, but he had rubbished my word and told me that his wife was pregnant.

That was the last nail in the coffin and I decided to go for no strings sex until I could actually find someone who was appealing enough to date. I slept with people just to satiate my sexual needs, but it was beginning to get meaningless.

I could feel an emptiness in my heart and I ached for a companion – someone who could seal the broken patches of my little heart. However, as I couldn’t foretell the future or look at what my story had in store for me, I often went out with my friends for some drinks.

Once in a while, we would also go to gay pubs as I had a few friends who were gay too. Jackie and John were engaged and Alan and I lacked any chemistry. We had tried to kiss once, but it was too awkward. We had decided to stick to friendship.

As I was willing to go to a gay pub, I decided to call Alan, Jackie and John and they all agreed to meet me at the pub.

I was wearing a white shirt that I had rolled up and skin clad jeans as I entered the pub. The atmosphere was amazing as always. Every time I came to the pub, I had some huge expectations about meeting my Mr. Right, but after some time, I had begun to realize that love wasn’t so easy.
